Fall Taizé Services

Fall Taizé Services at Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church

Starting Sunday, September 7, 2025 at 5 p.m., Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church will host area PCUSA leaders and musicians for short weekly taizé services every Sunday night.  People from all backgrounds and beliefs are welcome.

Taizé worship is a contemplative form of Christian prayer that emphasizes silence, meditation, and simple music. It originated with the Taizé Community in France, an ecumenical monastic community that welcomes people from all Christian traditions—and even those of other faiths or no particular faith.

Unlike traditional church services, Taizé worship does not include a sermon or structured liturgy. Instead, the service is marked by repeated chants, scripture readings, extended periods of silence, and candlelight. The repetition of the music—often short phrases sung over and over—helps create a sense of inner stillness and spiritual openness.

The atmosphere is peaceful and reflective, designed to encourage personal prayer, a sense of unity, and quiet connection with the divine. People are invited to participate as they feel comfortable, making it a welcoming space even for those who may not consider themselves religious.”
